Our Vision – Achieving Together
Our vision is simple and powerful: Achieving Together.
This reflects our belief that learning is a shared journey between students, staff, whānau, and the wider community. When we work in partnership, we create the conditions for every learner to thrive — academically, socially, and emotionally.
We are committed to nurturing learners who are:
- Confident in who they are
- Curious about the world
- Connected to others
- Capable of achieving their personal best
“Achieving Together” means celebrating progress, embracing diversity, and building strong, respectful relationships that support every student to succeed — now and into the future.
Student-Centred Learning
We place students at the heart of everything we do. Our approach to teaching and learning is built around the needs, interests, and strengths of our learners.
We believe that when students are actively involved in their own learning, they become more motivated, confident, and capable.
Our learning programmes are designed to grow and strengthen key dispositions that support success now and in the future.
At Chapel Downs, we encourage all students to be:
- Investigators – curious and eager to explore new ideas
- Self-Managers – organised, responsible, and independent
- Communicators – clear, thoughtful, and active listeners and speakers
- Respectful – kind, inclusive, and caring towards others and the environment
- Persevering – resilient and determined when faced with challenges
- Team Work – collaborative, supportive, and willing to contribute
These dispositions are woven into everyday classroom experiences and help shape learners who are ready to succeed in a changing world, as individuals and as members of a learning community.
Our Learning Environment
We believe that strong, trusting relationships are at the heart of successful learning.
Each class is led by one dedicated teacher who stays with their students throughout the year. This consistency allows for meaningful connections to grow between teachers and tamariki, creating a safe and supportive space where every learner feels known, valued, and understood.
When a child knows their teacher believes in them, it builds confidence, motivation, and a willingness to take risks in learning. Our teachers take the time to get to know each student — their strengths, interests, and needs — so they can provide personalised support and encouragement every step of the way.
This relationship-based approach fosters a deep sense of belonging and allows our students to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally.
